History :
Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) is the oldest tertiary-level hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It started its journey on 10 July 1946 as a 200-bed field hospital serving the British Indian armed forces.
The main hospital building was built in 1904 to serve as the Secretariat for Assam and East Bengal, and later converted into a hospital.
After Bangladesh gained independence, the hospital expanded rapidly. In 1972, its capacity increased to 1,080 beds, then to 1,800 beds, and today it has about 2,600 beds, including a 300-bed Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit.
DMCH is affiliated with Dhaka Medical College, serving both as a treatment center and a teaching hospital. Located in the center of Dhaka, the hospital has witnessed many historic events, including the 1952 Language Movement and the 1971 Liberation War.
